The French niche perfume house BDK decided to cooperate again with the talented and creative Julien Rasquinet in an attempt to explore the magic of the East in a distant olfactory journey, after the success of its Tabac Rose perfume, which was released in 2020 by the same designer, so it launched Ambre Safrano in 2022, which It was exclusive to Harrods and later became available to everyone through their official website.

Through the most precious aromatic ingredients the red gold _ saffron, Julien decided to go through this new experience again and bring out the best in his pocket and change the rules of the game, as there is nothing better than him in using these oriental ingredients in an ideal way.

The perfect timing for the appearance of the aromatic components and the use of very precise aromatic proportions contributed to the exit of this aromatic masterpiece, which is unlike anyone but Julien Rasquinet himself.

The fragrance opens with a sweet and smoky fruity opening of plum fruit inlaid with spicy saffron notes, a balanced and homogeneous overture with moderate sweetness, exciting and distinctive.

Passing to the heart of the fragrance, where the resinous Olibanum hints begin to appear wrapped in a bouquet of soft leather, the appearance of the Turkish rose will not be clear in the heart, but it gives brightness and balance to these dark ingredients, and the saffron notes are still continuing in the heart of the fragrance to give a sweet spice alongside Olibanum and leather.

Also, let’s not forget the role of the smoked plum fruit, to enhance the resinous strength of the Olibanum and give it intensity and depth.

Saffron’s symbolism is very rich. During the Antiquity, it embodied sensuality and exquisite pleasure. In India, it represents luck. It can suggest color, wealth, joy, opulence. Working on a saffron imagery is telling all these stories simultaneously. For Ambre Safrano, I attired it with amber’s gilded fineries, as to make it even more precious. Sandalwood, vanilla and oakwood contribute to craft him an enhancing leather skin.

Top Notes:Saffron accord, Black pepper oil from Madagascar and Plum accord.

Heart notes:Rose Absolute from Turkey, Olibanum absolute and Black leather accord.

Base notes:Oakwood CO2 from France, Sandalwood oil from New Caledonian and Vanilla bean extract CO2 from Madagascar.

At the base, your nose begins to sense amber scents, which is the first part of the name of the fragrance Ambre Safrano, on which the fragrance is based alongside saffron, but where is the amber in the components of the fragrance? The truth is that Julien decided to change the rules of the game and made his own amber blend based on four main components: Olibanum, soft leather and sandalwood and vanilla at a reduced dose is not noticeable, all of which contributed to the appearance of the fragrance in the base in an amber form. Sandalwood with its attractive creamy tones, gives impetus to amber notes in the base of the fragrance

And this was confirmed by Julian when he told us that he did not use amber in this perfume and that it came as a result of mixing the ingredients with each other, which gave us an amber character and inspiration.

In the end, I could describe the fragrance of Ambre Safrano as fruity in the opening, spicy, resinous, leathery and amber, and is clearly based on five main aromatic notes: plum, saffron, Olibanum, leather and sandalwood.
